  • OVERVIEW

    Trip Introduction:

Mardi Himal trek is a short trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal where we stay in teahouses (lodges), try local food, appreciate the excellent hill and mountain landscape; and marvel at the panoramic views of the massive Himalayan mountains including Annapurna, Machhapuchre, Hiunchuli and Mardi Himal.

While trekking on this route, leading up to Mardi Himal base camp and finally the high camp, we get to appreciate the solitary trails complete with verdant forests, interesting villages, valleys, terraced farms, dazzling rivers and the extraordinary views of the Annapurna, Machhapuchre (Fishtail) and Hiunchuli mountains.

Another benefit about this trekking route is that the trail makes a small circuit up to the base camp of Mardi Himal so that we don’t have to backtrack over the same terrain.

Medical Evaluation: Consult a healthcare professional for a comprehensive medical evaluation to confirm your fitness for high-altitude trekking. Discuss any existing health conditions and receive any required vaccinations.

Altitude Acclimatization Strategy: Develop an acclimatization plan integrated into your trek itinerary. It's essential to gradually ascend and include rest days to adapt to changing elevations, minimizing the risk of altitude sickness.

Trekking Permits and Documentation: Ensure you acquire the necessary trekking permits and TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card for the Mardi Himal region in advance. Verify your passport's validity for at least six months beyond your return date.

Gear and Packing: Invest in high-quality trekking equipment, including warm clothing, waterproof layers, sturdy trekking boots, a comfortable backpack, a suitable sleeping bag for cold conditions, trekking poles, and a headlamp with spare batteries.

Cold Weather Preparations: As temperatures can drop significantly at higher altitudes, pack thermal layers, insulated gloves, a warm hat, and a neck gaiter or scarf to shield against chilly winds.

Medications and First Aid: Consult a physician to obtain essential medications for altitude-related ailments, gastrointestinal issues, and other potential health concerns. Carry a personal first aid kit containing items like bandages, antiseptic wipes, pain relievers, and prescribed medications.

Hydration and Water Treatment: Bring a reliable water purification method or purification tablets to treat water from natural sources. Staying adequately hydrated is crucial to mitigate altitude-related challenges.

Travel Insurance: Purchase comprehensive travel insurance that encompasses high-altitude trekking and potential emergencies, including helicopter evacuations. Confirm that your insurance is valid for remote regions.

Basic Wilderness Skills: Familiarize yourself with fundamental wilderness and navigation skills, such as using maps and compasses, setting up tents, and cooking with portable stoves. Learn how to employ trekking equipment like crampons or ice axes if necessary.

These preparation steps are essential to ensure your safety, comfort, and enjoyment during the rewarding Mardi Himal Trek. Adequate physical conditioning, proper gear, and awareness of altitude-related risks will contribute to a successful and memorable adventure in this Himalayan paradise.
